Peel Ports has unveiled a deal worth GBP40 million (USD62.4 million) with Hydrodec to build the United Kingdom's first re-refinery for used oil at Port Wirral in Eastham, at the mouth of the Manchester Ship Canal. Hydrodec, which operates two other used-oil re-refineries, in Ohio in the United States and New South Wales in Australia, said it expected to begin construction of the facility at Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ Docks, northwestern England, in 2016, with operations to begin in 18 months. The company said it picked Port Wirral, which is being redeveloped, because of its excellent transport connections by road, rail, and water (via the River Mersey and the canal).
