The vehicle carrier fleet is forecast to grow by 20% by 2025, driven largely by infrastructure demand in the Asia-Pacific region. A renewal programme has seen more than 300 ships delivered since 2008. This rate of building is expected to continue, although the number of ships leaving the market for recycling is likely to decrease as demand grows. This will push the average age of the fleet from 10 years in 2014 to 13.6 years by 2025. However, the ships will have been built to EEDI and other efficiency standards.
