Outlook: The container ship charter market trended slightly firmer last week on stable fixing activity, with the ConTex market barometer gaining two points, or 0.5%. Again it was the 4,250teu baby-Panamax type that posted the strongest rise (3%) as panel brokers lifted their rate assessment basis 24-month periods to$10,470/day. The smaller geared vessel types lagged behind, with geared 2,500teu ships in particular facing more pressure on rates as tonnage lists became longer. The ConTex assessment for 2,500teu ships remained unchanged at $8,724/day, although there were reports of vessels concluding short and flexible periods at rates below $7,000/day in both Asia and the Mediterranean.
