Norway's shipping industry is keen to capitalise on the competence, skills and opportunities that the country offers, but its leaders have learned all too painfully that decision-makers at the Stortinget parliament are capable of sudden, sharp turns. Shipping wants marked improvements in stability and predictability from policymakers, which would go some way to prevent a recurrence of Norway's 2007 tax debacle, industry leaders told IHS Maritime. Norwegian shipping has grown in recent years, but this has mainly taken place under foreign flags, a situation the owners feel must be addressed.
