Companies in the Turkish maritime sector, like their counterparts in other Turkish economic sectors, appear to be succeeding in running their business relatively normally to date despite the strong political turbulence currently shaking the country. Turkey's strongman Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, facing elections next month, is promising an even more authoritarian regime if elected president. Erdogan and his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) have been under heavy fire from opposition parties since major corruption allegations came to light in December last year.
