The UN Global Record of Fishing Vessels, currently being developed and part-implemented, is intended to provide greater transparency in identifying vessels and their owners and what they are authorised to do, especially those operating on the high seas and in other states' exclusive economic zones. The global record is seen as a necessary part of a suite of arrangements needed to give concerned states and markets any real hope of keeping illegal, unreported, and unregulated fish products out of supply chains.
