After two decades as a seafarer and ship manager, Harminder Singh is going to UK marine caterer Garrets International in its push into Singapore's shipping hub. Now 39 years old, Singh's relationship with Garrets started when he consulted the company during his last job as a ship manager with IMC, the Singapore-based dry bulk and chemical shipping company. "I did an MBA as I wanted to enhance my skills and learn more about business operations to stand out from other ship captains," he explains to IHS Maritime. "After obtaining my MBA, I realised that I could work for myself. I can do something if my knowledge is sufficient to do business. Having been a customer of Garrets, I thought I could use my skills to add value in terms of my experience."
