Shipping has been warned it is woefully underprepared for cyber attacks from both inside and outside companies. Speaking at a London seminar, Security Association for the Maritime Industry (SAMI) maritime director Steve Jones said the sector is "decades behind the curve" on defending itself against cyber attacks. He also told senior maritime managers attending 'Seaworthiness & Cyber Security - the Hidden Threat to Shipping' that he saw no real action from the sector, indicating that shipping leaders have simply failed to take the issue seriously - and it might already be too late for some.
