Fared Khan has been appointed as Wallem Ship Management's (WSM's) fleet personnel director. He will direct WSM's recruitment and efforts to retain seafarers from its Hong Kong head office. Khan, a master mariner, for many years led the fleet personnel desk at AET Tanker Holdings. During this time, onboard injuries were significantly reduced and seafarer engagement increased, WSM said. The group's safety, insurance and technical teams will work with Khan to manage its pool of 12,000 seafarers from China, eastern Europe, India, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. WSM CEO Simon Doughty said: "Seafarers play a central role in our success, and the person who leads the personnel team is significant in defining the type of seafarers we attract."
