Some say ocean shipping is the business of moving cargo from port A to port B, not about financial bets on rates or 'flipping' assets. It is about diligent seafarers skilfully serving loyal customers, not numbers blipping across a screen. Some believe it is a business best handled by private owners and families, away from the knee-jerk short-termism of public stock investors. They see an industry that should be left to dedicated practitioners, not fickle newcomers from Manhattan in pinstripe suits who have never even been to sea, save aboard their own yachts in the shallows.
