New year predictions have been dominated, at least in recent years, by the global economic downturn in conjunction with impending sulphur emissions regulations, and the subsequent impact on shipowners' and operators' bottom lines. From the perspective of fuel suppliers, and of course their customers, the focus is on understanding the effect this will have on supply and demand, and the price of fuel oil. When it accounts for 70% of a vessel's operating costs, it should be a key point on every boardroom meeting agenda.
