Market efficiencies combined with easier access to capital, not regulation, will drive cost (and valuable carbon) savings for the maritime industry in 2013, and breathe much needed life into the industry. In 2012, we saw signs of this new trend when Cargill, Huntsman, and UNIPEC UK, which together charter more than 350M tonnes annually, announced they would only be chartering the more efficient vessels currently in operation.
