Although Japanese and fellow Asian shipowners are right to argue that three months is far too short for carriers to co-ordinate with customers over the second increase in tolls in little more than a year, this discussion has elements of something deeper. In an ideal world in which government and protesters meet for open debate on the major issues of the day, no doubt the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) could set out its stall.
