The average age of ships scrapped on the Indian subcontinent in 2012 was 23 years, according to Singapore-based shipbreaker Wirana Shipping Corporation. This is a dramatic fall in age from 29 years, the figure seen in 2011. Some 7.8M dwt has already been scrapped in the first two months of 2013, and rates may increase further, driving another record year, Wirana said.
