Rotterdam-based Fairmount Marine is an odd-man-out in the heavy sea transport world. Although it has heavy-ift capacity, its speciality is ocean towage rather than heavy lift. Indeed, with its fleet of five ocean-going 'super-tugs', each with 205 tonnes of bollard pull, it claims the title of world leader in its field. The five vessels, which were built between 2005 and 2007 at the Niigata shipyard in Japan, are mainly used in the offshore sector to tow such payloads as floating production, storage and offloading units and semi-submersible rigs.
