Arctic nations view commercial interest in the region, they were answered at the Economist magazine's Arctic Summit earlier this month. Early March and an icy morning in Oslo, but in an elegant hotel not far from the waterfront, discussion about the Arctic's future was heating up. Steffen Weber, secretary-general of the EU Arctic forum, said: "One thing is clear: Arctic nations want to develop the Arctic." More than 200 scientists, policymakers, industry leaders and environmentalists were eager to vigorously debate the issues this raises.
