摘要

Last week saw a respite in what could best be described as the Greek assault on the secondhand ship market in 2013, which has seen an almost constant flow of high-value purchases, especially of bulkers, since the turn of the year. Driven by historically low interest on bank deposits and attractively low inflation-adjusted ship prices, many private Greek buyers have decided that now is the time to re-enter the market, while earnings are weak and prices relatively depressed. However, the latest sale reports suggest that intra-Greek competition for the most sought-after modern Japanese candidates has in itself pushed prices upwards, regardless of prevailing fundamentals.
