SEA Europe, the recently created Brussels-based body representing European shipbuilders and marine equipment manufacturers, has not been unproductive during its first year of existence. The organisation, which took over the industry representative roles of the Community of European Shipyards Association (CESA) and the European Marine Equipment Council (EMEC), has been largely out of the public eye since it came into being in February last year, but for good reason. It has been working closely with the European Commission on LeaderSHIP 2020, the European Union's new maritime industries development strategy, unveiled on 20 February by EU enterprise and industry commissioner Antonio Tajani. The birth of SEA Europe has been facilitated by LeaderSHIP 2020, which has now succeeded the groundbreaking LeaderSHIP 2015 strategy that had been in effect since 2002-03.
