What if Scotland votes yes? Yes to leaving the United Kingdom and setting up an independent nation state, perhaps not with its own currency or a new head of state, but independent nevertheless? Would there be an impact on Scotland's maritime sector, which is estimated to support directly or indirectly 75,000 jobs and contribute a little under £4Bn ($6.2Bn) to the local economy? Would a breakaway state have the resources to underpin its maritime sector through a continuing of tonnage tax?
