World crude steel production in August was 130M tonnes, an increase of 5.2% year-on-year, the World Steel Association (WSA) reported. The world's leading steelmaker, China, accounted for an extraordinary 50% of crude steel produced globally. Production this year is expected to reach about 780M tonnes, an increase of 8.8% on the previous year and accelerating from 2012 growth of 4.7%, according to the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA).
