Hyundai Merchant Marine is focused on winning contracts of affreightment and consecutive voyage charters to stabilise earnings amid the unpredictability of spot shipments. This year, the company has secured contracts with compatriot power generators Korea Midland Power and Korea Western Power and refining company S-Oil. When Fairplay visited HMM head of corporate planning Sohn Yongchan and head of investment planning Pak Jinho at the company's Seoul headquarters, Sohn affirmed the goal was stable contracts. "Shipping isn't doing well... [but] HMM has been successful in signing contracts with various customers."
