The northern winter low season has descended on the container ship charter market. Fixing activity lost steam across all classes last week but rates still held on to last done except for post-Panamax ships, brokers said. Pressure on Panamax and post-Panamax rates has continued to build, causing a significant fall in spot hire levels for 8,500teu types as reports emerged about the fixture of the Greek-owned 8,531 teu Navarino at only $ 18,000/day for a 1-4 month flexible period with China Shipping.
