Chile's three largest ports reported mixed results in 1H13, with market leader San Antonio seeing a 9.9% gain in box throughput, while second- and third-ranked Valparaiso and Talcahuano/San Vincente reported drops of 2.4% and 5.8% respectively. In2012,Chilean ports moved 3.52Mteu, up from 3.46M teu the year before. Although central Chilean ports, serving the Santiago-Valparaiso- San Antonio area, are considered very efficient, "northern Chile and southern Chile port infrastructure is lacking", asserted a Singaporean liner executive who declined to be identified. There are some exceptions, notably Coronel in southern Chile, which specialises in forestry exports. Coronel's 1H13 container throughput jumped by 96% compared with 1H12.
