Robert Bugbee, president of Scorpio Tankers and Scorpio Bulkers, will take over as Commodore of the Connecticut Maritime Association in March 2014. The industry honour came as tittle surprise, given that Bugbee is the single most successful 'rainmaker' in the industry's hunt for public capital to fund eco newbuildings. NYSE-listed Scorpio Tankers has raised $1Bn in US public markets over the past year and used proceeds to fund a frenetic expansion plan, with 54 fuel-efficient product tankers on order. Scorpio Bulkers, now preparing for a US IPO, has raised $824M through private placements in the past six months to fund 39 eco-bulker orders.
