Post-Panamax pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) will drive the first significant change to the landscape of the car carrier sector for a long time, but they will not sweep existing ships from the market altogether. These large vessels have grown in popularity: IHS Fairplay data shows that 30 of the 55 PCTC newbuildings on order are Post-Panamax. "Cargo capacity [of post-Panamax PCTCs] is greater and fuel consumption/unit will go down," explained Benedicte Gude, vice-president communication at Lysaker, Norway-headquartered WilhWilhelmsen.
