New Delhi is getting ready to swamp global markets with Indian varieties of wheat. Yet another season of good rains and bumper crops has given the government unmanageably high grain stocks. On 1 November, the country's wheat stocks were 36M tonnes, three times more than the target for the October-December quarter. Exports will have to reduce the excess. This bounty follows a recent 13% cut in the government's floor price for Indian wheat exports, which was announced in October 2013 to boost exports from overflowing national warehouses.

7. Commodity prices have risen sharply since 2006. This may benefit developing countries specialized on primary exports, but poverty may increase. Uruguay is a net exporter of primary products and a net importer of oil. With the aim of analyzing the impact of soaring commodity prices and policy options, we apply a CGE model and microsimulations.
