Rising investment in 8,000-10,000teu container ships should see tonnage cascading and service restructuring in the container trades accelerate in the coming years, probably at the expense of charter owners of Panamax and smaller post-Panamax ships. The rampant ordering activity in this size range is causing growing worries among analysts and shipowners who fear that rising deliveries of such post-Panamax units (8,000-10.000teu, with beams greater than 33 m) could tip the container market over the cliff again before it has had a chance to recover.
