While several regulations affecting the US maritime trades are scheduled to roll out in 2012, a presidential election year could magnify the usual partisan politics on Capitol Hill and delay major maritime legislation. In the US, as in other countries, presidential election years tend to have a polarising effect on lawmakers rallying support for - or opposition to - the incumbent president.
