There is a "surge in regulatory requirements" that is helping to drive maritime software adoption, believes Demetri Stroubakis, senior vice-president for global operations of ABS Nautical Systems. He highlighted new environmental and labour regulations as feeding demand for maritime software and spurring IT developers to create new applications. "Decisions being made [on software purchases] are highly governed by regulatory requirements," he told Fairplay. "Anything you can do to demonstrate performance and document compliance, the faster you can do that and the easier you can display it, will put your company into favour with the various regulatory bodies."
