The British government's aim to greatly increase the use of renewable energy in the UK could provide a boost to the country's network of canals. One such project is at an advanced stage of planning. Dalkia, a business jointly owned by two French companies, EDF and Veolia, wants to use a canal in the north of England to transport biomass fuel to a planned power plant at Pollington, near Leeds.
