China's hunger for coal continues to grow. As the world's largest producer of coal, its total output last year increased by 8.7% to 3.52Bn tonnes. That is 45% of the world's total. China has the second-largest proven reserves after the US with 17 OBn tonnes, 19% of the world's total. Within China, the largest coal production is now in Inner Mongolia, with an output of 979M tonnes last year, up by 25%.
