One of the primary objectives for the coming years is the further development of SAL's new offshore division, competing for offshore cargo transfers, Installation work and subsea liftings for offshore oil & gas and renewables clients. The company's market entry was delayed by a few years due to performance problems by former Hamburg shipyard Sietas on a heavy-lift/installation vessel series placed by SAL back in 2005. Since delivery of its two most advanced B183 type vessels in 2010-11, each equipped with two cranes for combined safe working loads of 2,000 tonnes, orders from offshore clients have been rising steadily, though, said the company's chief executive officer, Lars Rolner. "The ships are very well booked; it's a completely separate operation from the conventional project cargo segment," Rolner said. One of the vessels has meanwhile been retrofitted with a dynamic positioning 2 (DP 2) system and the second will probably follow in early 2013.
