A mass flow meter has been used for the first time in Singapore to improve the transparency and accuracy of bunker deliveries. The ExxonMobil-chartered 5,613dwt bunker tanker Emissary refuelled Pacific International Lines' boxship Kota Layang on 11 July, bringing to an end long discussions about the meter's use. After months of checks and tests by a working group set up by the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore and including shipping industry and technical experts, the use of mass flow meters was finally validated and given the go-ahead by the MPA in June.
