Broking reports suggest mid-August sale and purchase markets were surprisingly active, while scrap prices actually strengthened despite the quantity of ships available to feed the recyclers. That said, this is a deceptive reporting season, where brokers who are not on holiday have ample spare time to research candidates marketed earlier in the year, hence reports are sometimes padded out with sales that were quietly concluded weeks or even months ago.
