As a South Korean carrier, Seoul-based Hyundai Merchant Marine's reefer business stands to particularly benefit from the US-Korea free trade agreement (FTA) signed last year and which went into effect in March. US exports to South Korea had faced much higher tariffs than imports from South Korea before the agreement, which is expected to equalise the situation for US goods and services by eliminating, or substantially lowering, the tariffs on US exports.
