Capt Jan Mikael Sigurd, master of the Wallenius Wilhelmsen car carrier Tamerlane, has taken ships through the Panama Canal more times than he can recall. "It's a long day," he tells the company's new in-house magazine, Venture. "We start early in the morning and we hope to be out early evening or late afternoon. He has done this many times: "The quicker the better". With its 240.6m length and 32.26m beam, the ship can barely fit the three sets of locks of the canal - Gatun, Pedro Miguel and Miraflores.
