After years of very large new-building orders for LNG vessels, the Middle East is likely to see reduced momentum in LNG development as Qatar, the largest gas exporter in the world, now has enough ships to transport its products. Meanwhile, Iran's gas projects remain muted because of international sanctions. Iran and Qatar share the world's largest gas field, with the latter calling its share North Field and Iran naming its section South Pars. Iran and Qatar have the world's second and third largest natural gas reserves respectively, after Russia. Estimates from the International Energy Agency (IEA) project that South Pars/North Field contains 5 l Trn m~3 of in situ gas and some 50Bn barrels of condensates.
