Having been the principal mover on the oil rig scene for the past decade, Singapore's platform builders are now hungry for a share of South Korea's drillship market. Both Keppel Corp and Sembcorp Marine have produced drillship designs, encouraged by an invitation to bid for orders from Brazilian oil major Petrobras. Although the designs have yet to materialise into actual ships, the rig builders have made no secret of the fact that they hope to challenge the South Korean shipyards, which have more than 80% of the global drillship market.
