摘要

Volumes through the St Lawrence Seaway are up year-on-year, driven in large part by rising demand for grain, iron ore and coal in export markets. Strong appetite in Asia and the lower US dollar have increased demand for American bulk commodities, Tom Brodeur, marketing vice-president of Canada Steamship Lines (CSL), told Fairplay. Consequently, the traditional 'Labrador iron ore in, prairie grain out' shipment pattern that was a Seaway staple for decades has become more of a one-way trade for vessels, he explained.
