International classification society Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (Class NK) has made the first commercial investment of its 112-year history, following a change in the organisation's legal status in April. The Tokyo-based organisation will take a 20% stake in Japan Marine Science, which will issue new shares in exchange for an undisclosed capital investment. Founded in 1985, Kawasaki City-headquartered Japan Marine Science is, among other things, one of Japan's leaders in maritime IT developments, a position expected to complement Class NK's growing range of activities and services.
