A view from the upper level of the bay-coloured office block in Bremen's 1 Martinistrasse inevitably falls on the monumental edifice on the opposite bank of the river. The imposing head office of defunct project carrier Beluga Shipping, now under the control of an administrator, always seemed to purvey a sense of haughtiness. Today it's a plain symbol of economic failure. Beluga, once operator of more than 70 multi-purpose (MPP) vessels and self-styled "world market leader" in conventional heavy lift, is dead. But only 200m away, former employees of the company under the lead of investment firm Oaktree Capital Management are forging a new operator out of the ashes.
