摘要

Several former Communist bloc countries in eastern and central Europe - led by Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania - have been seeking a way to reduce their dependence on Russian gas. But in recent months tension has been building in two of the Baltic States over how this might be achieved. Lithuania wants to fast-track construction of an LNG terminal at the port of Klaipeda, which would serve only Lithuania, while Latvia is pushing for agreement between all three Baltic states for the construction of a facility at Riga.
