摘要

Shipowners operating in Nigeria pay a high price when their vessels are attacked by pirates, a London conference heard last week. Funmi Folorunso, director general of the Indigenous Shipowners Association of Nigeria (ISAN), described the costs borne by owners in the event of an attack as "horrendous". "In Nigeria we have two types of shipowners: foreign [offshore] and Nigerian owners. We also have legislation that reserves coastal shipping to Nigeria. For the shipowner, his vessel is his greatest asset," she said.
