摘要

The marine insurance industry is to present a united front in the fight against pirates, who are extending their raids further afield seeking out 'soft' targets. Now underwriters are looking at ways they can bolster both their preventive capabilities and their response when vessels are seized. In addition, in the run-up to this month's annual International Union of Marine insurance (IUMI) Conference, president Ole Wikborg has been trying to raise the profile of the piracy problem, describing the hostages as "the world's forgotten mariners". He said piracy in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean was "an absolutely unacceptable disruption of global trade to which marine insurers must respond.
