According to ESC secretary-general Nicolette van der Jagt (left), carbon intensity and sustainability will be a major criterion in the selection of logistics service providers in the future, as "sustainability is becoming increasingly important". What van der Jagt wants to see is "a consoli dation of supply chains that will yield benefits and efficiencies". Also, what shippers want are "reduced costs from operational efficiency, including slow steaming", she noted, "and to achieve better reputation as a result of being green". Above all, she said, there is an urgent need among snippers for more information on sustainabil ity innovations and solutions, better data on proposals such as slow steaming and fuel "and what possibilities there are out there".
