As a third-party ship manager, Wilhelmsen Ship Management's (WSM's) president Carl Schou is aware that his clients will be more cost-conscious as recession looms yet again. So his vision is to go beyond ship management by offering additional services. He told Fairplay: "We are subject to cost controls every day so we always have to look over our shoulder to fine-tune our expenditure, since we compete with both third-party and in-house managers. With economic uncertainty looming, owners are more focused on costs so they want to ensure that their money is wisely spent."
