The US Maritime Administration (MarAd) unveiled 11 ship designs at the end of November that it says have been "specifically engineered for America's marine highways." They are intended to carry cargoes that would otherwise be sent by road and focus primarily on ro-ro vessels to carry wheeled cargo such as automobiles, trucks and trailers or railway wagons.
