Chinese yards could save owners substantial amounts of money if they used in-house ship designers rather than outsourcing, Denmark's tanker and bulker owner Norden has told Fairplay.rnThe Chinese have made rapid progress in shipbuilding, said Norden's technical chief Lars Lun-degaard - but lack of experience means many Chinese yards have to use the services of design houses.rnThis leads to a lack of co-ordination between departments at the yards, resulting in engine and propeller designs that aren't optimised to save owners money on fuel consumption.
