A seasonal drop in fixing activity and a surge of large newbuilding deliveries from Asian yards have forced daily hire rates for container ships lower for the first time since the end of 2009.rnIn anticipation of a challenging rate environment over the next few months, operators have set about re-adjusting capacity on several trades.rnFrench data analyst Alpha-liner expects an increase in idled container ship capacity from 225,000teu to more than 600,000teu by the end of December.
