Shipping agents in Greece's Macedonia region have expressed frustration at the decision by the port authority of Thessaloniki (THPA) to increase fees by 2.5% from 1 May.rnThe increase comes at a time when transit traffic at Greece's sec-rnond port is practically nil, and follows the announcement of a 61.7% drop in profits in 2008. The port has blamed both on the 15 months of labour disruption by dockworkers opposed to the government's port privatisation programme.rnAccording to Georgios Zafeir-oudis, secretary general of the Shipping Agents of ThessalonikirnAssociation, the increase is "both inexplicable and damaging".rnThe labour disruption has, in the past 18 months, left shipping companies that use the strategic Balkan port - apart from northern Greece, it serves Albania, Kosovo, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and southern Bulgaria - with no option but to call at competingrnports in Albania (Durres) and Bulgaria (Varna and Burgas).
